I have stuffed a vase bought in China with dirty underwear and packed a teacup in a dirty sock in its box. The funny thing was that I gave the teacup to my secretary with out removing the sock!

My concern/tip is the limit on liquids on carry ons. I have found packaged sunblock on wipes in the baby department and use the insect repellent wipes as well. Along with my regulation-size carry on rolling bag, I take a fashionably large size purse/tote to carry camera, the quart size plastic bag of liquids, makeup, medicines, reading materials, tickets, money, etc. I can get by on a 10 day or less trip with this small amount of luggage. I rarely throw away any clothing.

One thing to keep in mind also, for every single item in your wardrobe, there is a "last time" it will be worn. With just a bit of forethought, that last time for your favorite garments could very well be on vacation.

I don't think I've ever looked at my closet and said to myself "OK, this is the last time I'm going to wear this top", etc.

I don't recall anyone dying or being stricken by lightning from wearing underwear more than once....not my choice, but I have done it on occasion.... I will spare the details, but look, I am still here, still alive, kicking & traveling light!

I agree with toedtoes. If I wear a clothing item and find it no longer fits or is not in style which rarely happens as I tend to buy classic styles or when I find it has a stain that will not come out etc., I get rid of the item. Old jeans and a few tops (still presentable looking) I will keep for wearing while doing heavy housework or while in the garden.

New lingerie is packed for my trip. There is no way I would consider taking old lingerie that is ready to be thrown away when going on a trip. Lingerie takes up the least amount of room basically than anything else we put in our luggage. I won't even wear old lingerie that needs to be tossed while at home. Just my two cents worth. But we all have different travelling and life styles.

lollylo25, maybe you are alive and kicking after wearing less than fresh underwear, but how are the people you sat next to? Are they alive and still breathing?

Just a humorous thought.

Yep, agree with LoveItaly. I relegate old stuff to work clothes and take fun/comfortable stuff on vacation. It's no fun to go through vacation wearing stuff that I'd rather throw away.

for 1 2 week trip:
your husband and yourself change every week the pants - he wore it inside then you wear it outside and then change....

2 panties for 2 weeks :-)

I took old underwear on a tri toMexico. I threw the first old pair in the garbage. When we returned from our day tour there they were. All nicely washed and folded on the bathroom counter. The housekeeping staff must have wondered how we could afford a vacation when I couldn't even afford decent underwear.
