Noise Cancelling Headphones

I am shopping for a new pair. I had an Audio Technica that worked well but stopped working after only 3 years and not that much use. Leaving in a month with several flights in the schedule and would like to take a good set. Anyone have recommends?

Also interested in any ideas for blocking out room noise other than my Ace Hardware foam ear plugs.

The to do list is infinite at this point in the trip!

Thanks.

Over the years I've tried several (both cheap and expensive brands) and all were either uncomfortable, or didn't work very well (the cheaper ones). They were all over-ear - and it was hard to get some to fit. I finally forked over for the Bose in-ear buds and they are WONDERFUL. Very comfortable (and that isn't usually the case for me - I don't really like ear buds normally) - The three different size ear tips provided are very soft. The control, is teensy and very light. The whole thing fits in a tiny soft case . . . and they WORK

It took some convincing - and three trips back to the Bose store for me to finally decide to pay that much . . . but I love them.

janisj, i had looked at those online but eliminated further thought as earbuds are always uncomfortable for me. Seem to never fit right, so constant adjusting. Thanks for the recommend. I will take a look at the Bose store for sure.

Yes, I'd definitely go into a store and try them. I was really REALLY surprised how comfortable they are - at least for me. Your results may differ :)

Also have Bose but not the over ear variety, the on ear ones. I really like them and have had mine for quite a few years. DH just bought an over the ear pair that he also likes. I know they are bigger thsn the ear buds but I have problems with foam ear plugs hurting my ears so probably would not like the buds.

When I bought my Bose, I got them online thru AA's online shopping and got an extra 2000 air miles so you might want to check out that aspect as well.

bettyk: The Bose aren't foam and are very soft/comfortable IME - I've had them about 8 months.

neither size of the Bose over ear work well for me. (I had a par if of the larger ones and have tried the smaller ones in-store) The smaller ones don't seem to work as well as the larger ones, but the big ones are just too big for my head - plus I find the case is large/cumbersome.

Understand janisj that they aren't foam. Just meant that anything in the ear is irritating for me. I know everbody is different which is why Bose was smart in covering all the bases!

I despise earbuds and have never had a set that are remotely comfy so I completely avoided the ear buds when I was trying out headsets. There might be excellent pairs out there, just not for me.

I tried on a handful of different noise canceling headphones at BestBuy and just wasn't happy with the fit of many of them. The Sennheiser's were really nice but just weren't comfy for me. The big Bose ones are wonderful and truly quite nice. They are a pain in the butt to carry due to size, but they're worth it so far. I'm planning on getting another set of my cheapo $10 headphones that wrap around your ear and sit on your ear for when I want music out and about during a day, but don't want to take the Bose with me.

Me too -- I really have never liked earbuds . . . which is why I'm so surprised these Bose ones are so nice. I find them more comfortable than the large Bose which are just too big/heavy

I have also gone to the big Bose over the ear set. The pros are they fit my head, great noise cancelling, good sound volume (I wish I could get it lower on some planes), and they don't hurt or make me tired even after wearing 15 hours on a flight. The cons are the large size of the case and the difficulty lying head on side or against wall to rest.

I too have trouble wearing foam earplugs for long. I sometimes use Mack's silicone putty earplugs. You place them over your ear canal instead of into your ear canal. It takes some practice to get them to work, but I find they are easier on my ears.

I vote for janisj's Bose in ear noise canceling earbuds. I've had mine over a year and they are very comfy - not like your regular ear buds. They are not foam and come with three sizes of ear pieces. They just kinda sit in your ears bug provide excellent mouse cancellation. Love 'em ! Bose gives a 30 day return policy so you can try and then return if you're not happy.

I also vote for Bose. First try at AT then Senheiser but then nothing can beat BOSE <3
