New York, Vegas or the Carribean

Hi

My husband and I will celebrate our 20 yr anniversary this fall and our gift to each other would be a kids-free holiday. We live in eastern Canada and we could not be gone for more than 5 days total. So we are considering NY, Vegas or somewhere in the Carribean, any recommendations?

What are your interests?

Where have you been already, and where did you like?

In the fall, I'd probably choose between NYC and Vegas. I think it depends on whether or not gambling is a major priority for you. If it is, then the choice is obvious.

But another important consideration is budget. NYC is expensive in the fall, Vegas not as much unless there's a convention. The best hotels in Las Vegas are generally cheaper than NYC, but the restaurants aren't. They may even be more expensive.

Thanks Doug, you're right hotels in NYC are expensive, but didn't know about restaurants in Vegas.

We are fairly active people, so even if we went to the Carribean we would be doing something (not laying on the beach), para-sailing or snorkeling.

We were in Europe this past spring and really enjoyed Roma. We were also in Thailand a few years ago and enjoyed both Bangkok and a beach resort. So we're are open to anything...

Thanks for any suggestions!

Vegas? Sorry, but that's about the least romantic place I can think of!

NYC has possibilities, if not too expensive.

What about Colorado? The fall is gorgeous, and prices won't be too high if before Thanksgiving. Look at Devil's Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa. It's about 2 hours' drive from Denver. Or you could take Amtrak from downtown's newly-renovated train station, to Fraser. Ask at DTR, but I'm pretty sure their shuttle would pick you up at the train depot. You won't need a car once you're there, because you won't want to leave! They will pamper you, Western style.

It seems like you may be inclined to go to the beach. If you do that realize that a) it's hurricane season and b) some places (especially the better ones) may be closed in the late fall, though this doesn't generally apply to all-inclusive resorts. If "Fall" means September or October, then those are the months when hurricanes are most likely, though the truth is that the chance a hurricane will hit a specific island at a specific time is very low. I'd still recommend insurance that allows cancellation for any reason.

How about the train across Canada? Stop in the Rockies and fly back from Vancouver. Sleeper class on the Canadian is very nice.

Nice idea thursdaysd, but we would only have a few days, nit long enough to enjoy the journey

If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation, I would suggest the Caribbean. Unlike the other 2 options, it has beaches and will offer you a great getaway. My second recommendation would be New York and the third would be Vegas.
