mid-twenty solo female traveler looking for advice on around the world trip!

I am looking at taking an around the world trip in the spring and I would love to get in contact with someone who has done this before or someone that has traveled to some of these places. I am in my mid-twenties and a female and I'm a little nervous about traveling by myself. Anyone have any advice? I will be heading to Europe and Asia with a short stop in Guatemala. Thanks!

www.lonelyplanet.com go to their forum called Thorn Tree. various branches include solo travel, RTW travel, etc.

Have you ever traveled solo before? Most people start with something a LOT smaller than going around-the-world when it's their very first time traveling alone.

See this thread: fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=1863&tid=34907562

Also, read Hasbrouck's Practical Nomad.

Have you traveled alone before? Do you have an itinerary? I (older female) have done a RTW through Europe and Asia, but maybe not to "these places".

happy to help. yes i have traveled quite a bit, but i'm older. i started small and built up my 'travel savvy' over many many trips and increasing levels of challenge to the trips. i can understand your being nervous because this RTW a huge undertaking especially if it is your first time traveling and/or traveling alone.

okie-

I'm a 27 (just turned a week ago!) year old gal in the middle of a year abroad (mostly through Asia)...don't know if Europe will make it to my list...but I can probably answer a few questions, if you shoot them my way. And, yeah, the whole trip has pretty much been solo...

I traveled for 8 months throughout Europe and the Middle East. It was brilliant.. you always meet up with other great travelers and one of the best things I did was become a host exchange member. Have a look at the website. In southern france and Corsica I stayed with two families for about 3 weeks each and I did about 4 hours worth of work and then was able to visit the local communities and do some extra travel. Actually in southern france my host took me to spain!! A really good option for traveling inexpensively
