I don't think I would especially go to another country to get medical or dental. Maybe in the future when I would really need something and it's not covered. When it makes sense to take the risk.

When my son was living in Hong Kong he told me hearing aids were far cheaper there, and my savings would probably cover the cost of airfare. I tried looking into it but couldn’t find much information so abandoned the idea. I’m Canadian and have a good insurance plan to supplement our government plan so going out of country for something covered at home makes no sense. Plus my travel insurance does not cover travel for non-emergencey medical procedures.

I have not traveled for the purpose of seeking medical treatment, although I know people who have. I have, however, been treated in other countries when I happened to be there. I was living in Mexico for a year and consulted a dermatologist about a minor problem. The treatment was great, much less impersonal than in the US and cost me about $30. In France when I got some kind of stomach bug, a doctor saw me immediately, gave me the note I needed to show why I couldn't take my flight home, and the cost was so small, I don't even remember what it does. I have also been with a group in Italy when someone else got sick, and a doctor made a housecall to our hotel. I know one person who broke a leg in China, one who had an appendectomy in the Czech Republic, and one who had a severely broken leg treated in France. In all cases, the medical treatment was excellent and the bill was negligible.
