Looking for a new travel destination
We have a group of 3-4 couples in our early 60's that vacation for 2 weeks each winter. We have been going to Playa Del Carmen and isla Mujeres, Mexico for the past 10 years and want to find a new destination. What we love about this part of Mexico is the beautiful water, white sand beaches, lots of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. We are able to find rooms for $100 a night, and it's less than a 4 hour flight from MN. So here's the question --where else can we get a similar experience?? Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Belize.

Puerto Vallarta (sorry don't know about the flight time from MN) but it has the local culture, restaurants, shopping, activities and hotels and apartments in that price range.

Diane, I can see you on your profile you are newly registered here on Fodor's. So first, welcome!
Hardly anyone reads this "Travel Tips" branch, so even though it seems the appropriate place for a post like yours, you might want to repost in the destination forums like... Mexico & Caribbean so many more people will see it and possibly reply. |
Thanks Suze, I'lll do that!

Try Cancun, is one of the most visited tourist cities in Mexico. It is also home to world’s second longest coral reef system.

This is the CORRECT place to post UNLESS you have a narrower area of the world in mind.
You will not get suggestions to try the Seychelles, Maldives or Cape Verde Islands for example on the Mexico branch. Obviously, enough people read this branch or there would be no replies. Duhhhhh. Really MNDiane, you have not provided enough criteria for anyone to make suggestions on. Budget including airfares for example will eliminate a lot of choices that could be suggested as will flight time from home you are willing to undertake. For example, Cane Garden Bay on Tortola, BVI, might be a real change for you. Aren't you getting a bit tired of the same old, same old, Mexican resort towns? https://www.google.ca/#q=cane+garden+bay+tortola |
No - this really isn't the best place to post unfortunately. It might seem so - but in truth almost no Fodorites visit this forum. Only a tiny % even know this one exists. Most only access the boards that cover areas/countries they are keen on/knowledgeable about..
So if you have any ideas for a continent(s) even, you will get <B>MUCH</B> more/better response on the geographic forums. |
Can't you EVER be pleasant? What on earth in my post was nasty . . . It was a very polite explanation of why the other boards work better. But you have to be in attack mode at all times.
>>They way to increase and improve any aspect of something like this is to USE it, not discourage its use.<< I'm not here to drive traffic to a little used backwater forum. I actually try to HELP folks get the info they need. |
Well if Diane is interested in other places in addition to Mexico then she can post on THOSE destination forums too (Asia, the Pacific, etc.)
Seriously, about 5 people read this forum, you've just met all of them. |

Seychelles.
Maldives. Cape Verde. Madagascar. Greek islands. Eilat, Israel. French Polynesia. British Virgin Islands. The list goes on and on with the criteria given so far. To cover them all, you would need to post on EVERY geographic forum or on ONE forum, this one. |
<you would need to post on EVERY geographic forum >
Bingo. It's called "copy / paste" and takes 30 seconds. |
