Late October Honeymoon -- Europe or ????
My fiance and I are planning a honeymoon for October 15-28. We were originally thinking of a trip to Paris, but we're concerned the chance of rain will be high then. (We live in the Pacific Northwest, so we get enough clouds and drizzle at home!) Now we're also considering Greece, or possibly Italy, but I understand even Greece starts to get rainy by the end of October. Any suggestions for interesting locations with a strong chance of decent weather that time of year? (A little cool is OK, as long as it's sunny.) We are most interested in soaking up some urban culture, rather than doing adventure travel or lying on the beach. Thanks!

Hi
Rome could be an alternative. Have you checked up http://www.weatherbase.com to see how the weather stats is for Paris compared to your own hometown? I would guess that Rome should be warmer and drier this time of the year. I'm going on a short trip to Rome in October and I hope that the weather will be nice :d My wife and I went to Rome in July last year and here is a trip report with some pictures and links: http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm . We also went to Paris in April and even if it was a bit cold we still had a good time. Here is the trip report from Paris: http://gardkarlsen.com/Paris_France.htm . Hope that you will have a great honeymoon where ever you end up. Have you thought about maybe going to South Africa? It is spring time in Cape Town and I think it should also be a nice destination for you. Regards Gard http://gardkarlsen.com - trip reports and pictures |
We went to Venice for our honeymoon last October (the same weeks as yours) and it was quite cold and cloudy. South of Italy may have better weather. You can consider Rome + Amalfi Coast.

Where in Italy? The further south you go, better weather you'll have as another poster mentioned. Try the Amalfi Coast, Rome, Capri. Rome was fabulous in late October, sunny, warm and not too hot to wander the city all day. Capri also had wonderful sunny, nice weather in October.
I agree Venice was a bit cooler and misty/damp in October but I've been there before when it was sunny and warm in October too -- so it's really hit or miss! |
I was in Venice and Florence last year in Mid-November ane the weather was fabulous - no rain, and warm enough for short sleeves.
Of course, it is mid August now and it is absolutely freezing and rainy in Madrid today, so one never knows with the weather. |
I'm also honeymooning around the same time. I am actually considering Paris over Tuscany for that time of year because I kind of figure that once you're in the city (Paris) nice, warm weather and no rain simply is not as important as when you are out in the country (Tuscany) where there is likely to be more outdoor activities.
