Landmarks you've ONLY seen from an airplane
For me, the most interesting landmark I've only seen from an airplane is the Arch in St Louis. About 20 years ago I was flying home from Canada when the pilot announced we were flying over St. Louis. I followed the river with my eyes until I saw the Arch. We were in mid-flight so it looked like a paper clip, but I was still happy to have seen it.
A few years later I was on a trip that involved a layover in St. Louis. As we flew into St. Louis I kept looking but I didn't see it. But when my connecting flight took off from St Louis, OMG there it was, in all it's glory!! It was the most perfect view, I almost thought we were going to fly into it. I still want to see it from the ground someday but at least I can say I've seen it. So how about you? |
Not a landmark, but farmland from the air looked like corduroy and velvet.
A fantasyland look alike castle in England whose identity I can't determine. |
The Grand Canyon
Mt. Hood Oregon The strip in Las Vegas I’d like to see the first two from the ground, but really don’t care if I ever set foot on the Vegas strip or not. I’m unlikely to make a special effort to do so. I’ll have to think some more - there may be others. |
Niagara Falls. Also Windsor Castle. Here's a photo of the latter on approach to Heathrow last April.

There are probably others but Mt. Kilimanjaro is the only one coming to mind. It was exciting to see.

Great pic ms go!!

The Leaning Tower of Pisa
The Swiss Alps |
The Rock of Gibraltar. We actually took off from Gibraltar to go to Morocco but you really didn’t get a view of the Rock from the airport. Airport may be too generous a term, it was basically an airstrip in the middle of the road. This was on our honeymoon back in 1988. It was exciting at the time.

Mount Ranier was never visible on 2 trips to Seattle area, but when we flew there to take an Alaskan cruise, we saw it! It was gorgeous!

Angel Falls, Venezuela. But it was an exciting flight in a light plane through Devil's Canyon.

Also a landscape, not a landmark, but Greenland (pictured below) and, even better, a crystalline winter polar ice cap of the coast of Alaska after flying over an active volcano in the Aleutians. That was amazing!
