Iguazu vs Victoria falls
Hey everyone. I may be planning a trip soon and was curious what everyone thought about these 2 waterfalls. If you have been to both, which one do you prefer? Which was more beautiful and was an overall better experience? Thanks :)

This particular forum is not much visited, so you might want to repost in both the South America forum (tagged for Argentina and Brazil) and the Africa forum (tagged for both Zambia and Zimbabwe). I think you will be more likely to get responses that way.

I preferred Victoria Falls simply because I love being in Africa. There is also a wider variety of other activities available.
For both locations I visited the waterfalls because I was in the area, but they were not my primary reason for being there. Sounds like your reason for visiting would be specifically to see the falls? |
I've been to both an they're really quite different. The Vic Falls is one enormous drop while the Iguazu Fall has more of a stepped down feel to it. In this regard it feels more interactive because you can walk around the whole thing on walk ways.
In a way both of them are "one stop shopping" and therefore to me not particularly interesting, though I've seen both I wouldn't consider them something you MUST see. Vic Falls however has the edge for me as rather like Femi the area speaks to me much more. The first time I went there we took the old steam train up from Bulawayo in the 1980s) and the last time we stayed at the Vic Falls Hotel so I have many more memories of this destination. |
I've been to both and, as I love Falls in general, was enthralled by both. I even like Niagara Falls :)
Yes, Victoria Falls held all the fascination of Africa as well as the sweeping expanse of those gorgeous Falls. But For me, Iguazu/Iguassu Falls was more spectacular, more intense, more available, somehow. We went to the Argentine and to the Brazilian sides (easy to cross to the other in a day) and were delighted by the different perspectives each presented. Just Spectacular ! And that 'Under the Falls Boat Ride' !!! loved it all. |
