Ideas for 40th Birthday

I turn 40 the end of June and would like to go away with my husband for a long weekend. We are fairly flexible with dates but would prefer to go nearish to June.
We would be leaving from NYC. We like to relax by the pool/beach but also walk around a town and just stop in and out of stores/bars. I'd like somewhere with some fun bars and nice food as well. So very open to a fun beach town or a smaller but still fun city with a hotel that has a pool. As example, we loved Charleston, Old San Juan, Dublin. A good food and wine festival would work as well. We were thinking Napa, Paris or Montreal but really not sure. Welcome any thoughts?
Thanks
Michelle

Welcome To Fodors. Napa, Paris and Montreal are all totally different (except for the French food :) ) and each would make a great 3 or 4 day getaway.

Re Paris -- it might depend on how jet lag affects you. I'm on the West Coast so never consider Europe for less than 6 days just because of the VERY long flights. But being in NY you don't have that problem.

You will get a lot more 'eyes' on your question and more response if you re-post on the US, Europe and/or Canada forums.

The OP posted this and has not been back again . . .

Maybe she re-posted?

>>Maybe she re-posted?<<

Nope -- this was her one and only ever post on Fodors.

Hi. Thanks for the ideas. I actually have been following posts but just not logging in.
We are still undecided but have decided not to do Europe. We are both from Ireland originally and go back there quite often. We will add Paris onto one of those trips.
I love a party for closest 40 people but from a really large family so not sure that would work without insulting someone. Montreal is still high on list.

Thanks!
