Welcome to Fodors. The place to ask about Greenland is the Europe forum - you need to repost there.

Greenland is a remote and therefore expensive destination. There are a number of other places to see the Northern Lights.

Hi Nanna,

The Northern Lights is such a magnificent sight I totally understand why you want to see it. Scandinavia is the best place to be if you want to witness the Aurora Borealis, but please bear in mind that aside from its beauty, part of its fame is its elusiveness. It's difficult to predict when and where exactly it will happen, that's why most people, when they book their trips, they usually book at least a week.

Tromsø in Norway is a good spot. As it's located in the norther part of Norway, you have less light than other parts of Scandinavia thus have a higher chance of seeing the winter lights. The Lapland Safari in Finland is also a good option, rumor has it that they have 200 days of the Northern Lights a year. Aside form this, Rovaniemi is also the hometown of Santa Claus so you can do various activities built around this idea.

Hope this helps :)

You don't say where you are coming from. If you are a US citizen try the Aurora Lodge about 25 miles NE of Fairbanks AK.
If you are from Europe, try the northern part of any of the Scandanavian countries.
The best Northern lights I ever saw was near Jasper Alberta Canada.

You have a lot of choices if you want to see the northern lights: Alaska, Greenland, Iceland (which is a transit point for all flights from the US to Greenland), Scandinavia (a Norwegian fjords cruise is a nice way to see the northern lights that actually gets you further north than you can easily get in Greenland), Finnish Lapland (another remote and expensive place with some excellent accommodations), and Svalbard. You can likely do everything you want to do in any of these destinations.

However, I'd strongly encourage you to go to Greenland if it interests you. It's a great place to visit.
