How to organize different currencies
 

I got to thinking that all those prescription bottles you get from the pharmacy (you know the ones that are usually see though orange-ish and come in different sizes)? Well, it seemed such a waste to constantly throw them in the trash or even recycle.

We just returned from a trip to Canada and I was about to throw all the extra coins into my foreign currency box along with coins from all different countries, when I thought I could organize the money from different countries so I could easily find and use it when a friend was traveling to that country or if we were going back again.

These prescription pill containers are perfect for paper bills and especially perfect for coins.
And if you are going to different countries and need various coins/bills you can keep them easily separated and easily found in your bag when needed. The prescription instructions peel off very easily.

This may be commonly done - or previously suggested, but I just thought of it!! I may be way behind others who've used this idea or may be out in front. :)

I have a box with all different currency I want to keep as a memory of my trip. It isn't sorted, it is just squished in. I like to go through it now and again and remember where I have been.

I still have a wad of notes from a previous trip to Thailand a few months ago. I keep meaning to take them out.

I use (labeled) zippered coin purses to keep currencies separate when I'm traveling where I need more than one.

I don't bring coins home with me, rather spend, donate, or just give away at the end of the trip before leaving the country. In airports there's often a charity/donation box.

I never bring home more than a few small bills and a small selection of coins and those go into a display of antique suitcases in my living room.

If I need more than one currency as I travel, I'll just pick it up at an ATM when I enter a country and anything left when I leave that country will go in a ziplock in my suitcase with other small papers/receipts/tickets until I get home.



Good idea though Nanabee if you're going somewhere that you or a friend/relative are likely to return to reasonably soon. :)

Our kids have collected coins from all our travels. We used to use empty film canisters, which were the perfect size. None of us take any prescription meds, but I wonder if a pharmacy would give a container or two? Sounds like a good container. Especially since film canisters are not very common anymore.

I use zip lock baggies to separate foreign currency for future use.
