How many trips do you take a year?
 

Don't worry this isn't a competition or anything to see who takes the most trips! I was just really curious to see how many trips people took a year on average and the variety of destinations they were going to. So the question is:

1. How many trips will you be taking this year and where will you be going?

2. How many weeks in total do you think you will you spend travelling this year?

The second question makes more sense than the first. I am wrapping up a six and a month RTW, but that would only count as one trip - and since I started it last year, presumably doesn't count for this year!

I love and enjoy traveling. Last year, I've visited 14 destinations. And for this year I have already my list and options where to go. They say that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” and there are perhaps other places that have touched my heart.

We travel more than we stay at home - on average we are "away" probably 7 to 8 months of the year.

Well I have a job and am self-supporting so there's a limited amount of time I can travel. I do aim for 1-2 major trips every year, and have been successful with that most years. If the trip's Europe than probably only 1 trip that year. If it's Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean then I can usually go twice. Trips can be anywhere from 7 to 21 days. I never plan in advance so can't really tell you where I'll end up going in 2011.

Like Suze, I aim for about 1-2 major trips every year. It depends on budget and vacation time. Also it depends on your definition of trip. I'm planning a weekend trip to Chicago with a few friends in August for the airshow, but that's not really a trip that I would count the same as my recent trip to China or the trip to Africa I'm planning.


Last year:
A weekend trip to Chicago, two weeks in Italy and two weeks in China (yay for extra days off at Christmas).

Planned for this year:
A weekend trip to Chicago and about two weeks in Kenya/Tanzania.

Good point... I didn't count times like flying to see friends in LA or San Francisco for 3-5 days as a "trip". So yes besides my more major travel I also do several of those smaller trips most years.

Always one big trip to someplace new which is our annual vacation -usually 2-3 weeks in duration. This year I anticipate that will be Ecuador, in the late fall.

And often a second smaller trip for me to someplace less exciting if my husband has a trade show or manager's meeting in a place I don't mind being. This year it's Germany in May. I've been a few times so no big excitement, but I will travel independently for a few days while he is at a show.

Finally, like suze said, if I go visit a friend in another city for a few days I don't really count that as a trip. For whatever reasons I reserve that word for leaving the country.

I have about 7 weeks of vacation each year and my husband has 3 weeks. I usually have too much work to take all of mine, though, so it's not as unbalanced as it looks.

am an avid travelling and love touring. i am into a lot of treks and that keeps my life going and exciting. i make sure i trek atleast once in a month mostly in deep wild places in south india and once in 6 months go on long trips. i also go on biking and visit places around.

The number of trips and amount of time travelling vary from year to year because of work commitments and work-related travel.

In 2011, I have made or expect to make the following trips:

- Spain in January (language holiday - 10 days)
- Brazil in March (work trip and language holiday combined - 10 days)
- Seattle in April (long weekend)
- Toronto in May (work plus long weekend holiday)
- Brazil/Argentina in May (work trip, plus maybe another language holiday - about 2 weeks total)
- London/Brussels in June (work plus weekend trip)
- Florida or Caribbean some time this summer - dive holiday (1 week or a little less)
- Hong Kong in the fall (work - probably 10 days)
- San Francisco in October (holiday - 5 days)
- France (holiday - possibly just a long weekend, maybe as long as a week)
- Mexico City - at least one trip for business

1. One major trip, going to Rome and Venice for 2 weeks.

2. I only get 2 weeks holiday a year

1 3 definite trips planned and booked or been on, to Norway for 13 days (my bonus trip because my husband is travelling so much), UK for 10 days in April, combining visiting friend and family with a few days on our own somewhere, and La Palma for a week in June. One more trip yet to be decided upon - Canada, US, China? Who knows, not me.

2 So this year I guess I'll be travelling maybe 7 or 8 weeks. Got to get the trips in while we can still afford it. In 2013 my husband retires and so will our travelling due to financial restraints.

Last year it was only 3 weeks away together. It depends on his work not on his leave allowance. He travels far more than I do - he has spent 6 weeks away so far this year. He was even away for his and our grandson's joint birthday. But that is all work related. He's always travelled for work and been to some fascinating sounding places. Pity I could ever go with him. I still have the travel bug, he doesn't.

I adore travelling but as i'm a student and have a child it seems to get more limited every year, last year i took 4 trips, switzerland, berlin and to the US twice but only on one of those trips did my 4 year old come with me. This year we're going on a trip within the UK for easter and then 3 weeks in the US in July :-) i should graduate next year and then i'll have to find a job, but i'm hoping next years big trip will be to Australia, if it happens there may be no small trips!!
