Ghana. Happy Travels!
|
Have you considered Ambergris Caye, Belize? I travelled there solo (female) and had a great time. There's quite a few nice small hotels and resorts right on the beach, very nice people, very safe, and easy to get to. Great place to unwind and read a few books. :-) If you go, check out the Sunbreeze Hotel, it's reasonable, right on the beach, and has a nice hammock above the bar that is usually vacant! It's also right on the edge of the town, so you can walk to all the restaurants and shops, just by walking up the beach.

I suggest Bali. It's safe (despite what you may have heard), beautiful, lots of opportunity for adventure and activity balanced by a beautiful setting to relax in. Stay in Ubud or Sanur not Kuta. Food is delicious and cheap - never a need to dress up or go somewhere stuffy.

I second New Zealand!

I was in your place this summer. I was traveling alone and I needed to destress. I decided to go with a tour group. This way I felt safe and I didn't have to worry about finding a place to sleep every night. I just hopped on the coach and off we went. And as an unexpected bonus, I also got to meet a lot of cool people from around the country that I've kept in contact with after my trip. If you're interested you can check out my blog:http://rae-does-contiki.blogspot.com/. I went on a typical European tour, but for my next trip I'm looking into the company's budget tours. They seem to be a little more hands-on and they even do some camping (I love the outdoors as well.) Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my trip. I had so much fun and love talking about it.

cinque terre in Italy..you may stay in Vernazza and hike the trail early in the morning to corniglia and on down..and then end your day sitting in a cafe sipping wine ..or get a bottle of wine from a lady in corniglia and find the little dock that juts into the sea for a picnic lunch while you journal..must go early in the day to avoid tourist..wonderful challenging hike..yet fulfilling.

Asking too much? No way! I am getting ready to turn 50 and planning a trip to the Caribbean to celebrate the occasion and I am doing it alone. Prior to researching what is available, I established the criteria that I wanted and needed in order for me to be comfortable in traveling alone. And I am plenty nervous about traveling by myself, but I have found the folks who partake of this chat bulletin board have been very helpful and encouraging. In making the plans for this special occasion, I came across several websites for women who want to travel and doing it alone. Please check them out. I only wish that I had the financial means to take all the trips that are available. Yes, New Zealand -- just back from 9 days there solo. Ireland- Galway for starters England -- Cotswolds, Bath, Oxford Scotland -- Edinburgh Italy -- Venice, Cinque Terre, Florence, small towns throughout. I have traveled to all of these places solo easily and safely. Love Canada too, especially BC. |
Africa is the best destination for a solo traveler. You are always busy with activities and with a guide, so you dont feel alone. Even in the evenings, around the camp fire or communal dining area, you are always meeting fellow travellers who are like-minded.
