HELP ME DECIDE WHERE TO GO

I'm looking for travel suggestions...

Solo 30 year old female traveler

Preferably somewhere that the American dollar is worth more rather than less

I prefer mountains to beaches and restaurants to bars, I enjoy museums, learning about a new culture, trying new foods, and just walking and exploring. I like beautiful scenery as well. live theater...etc. Maybe the occasional "party" night.

Preferably somewhere that the American dollar is worth more rather than less

Thailand, Cambodia, Morocco, or Tunisia.

Czech Republic, Ukraine, Hungary, Moldova, or Turkey.

Argentinian Patagonia, provided you exchange cash dollars on the black market.....

sparkchaser Aug 16th, 2013 04:44 AM

Watch out, thursdaysd . <redacted> will come in here to lecture you on the dangers of black market currency exchanges.

Now, where did I say I did any such thing? Actually, xoom.com would likely be a better method. And there are other, cheaper, places in South America - Ecuador actually uses the USD as its currency - but asking about them would be more productive on the South America board, despite the egregious <redacted's> fetish against doing so.

I was just yanking your chain.

Apparently Colombia has cleaned up its act. I'm hoping to visit Medellín and Bogota next year.

thursdaysd Aug 16th, 2013 05:22 AM

I should have added a smiley, sparkchaser, I was just returning the favor. Colombia is on my list, too, especially Cartagena.

No currency is ever really worth more or less. It's worth what it is worth. In terms of buying power, your $ would go farther in Spain than in the UK for example. But that tells you nothing in terms of what you want to make a decision about.

It would help you narrow things down and get suggestions FTM if you provide a budget total and time available rather than asking about where the $ is worth more which is meaningless if your budget for a given period of time doesn't line up. Capisce?

Mexico is a huge, diverse, and interesting country with many places that are still an excellent value against the dollar. Look at the colonial town up in the mountains, that sounds like it could be what you are after.

you might also include a suggestion for a trip to india including chennai, delhi, mumbai etc. Now a days your 1 dollar is worth 62 rupees in india. It is one of the most cheapest and the most fascinating destinations in the world. And if going do not miss a trip to kerala

thursdaysd Aug 17th, 2013 04:00 AM

India is not the best destination for solo female travelers. I have been twice, for a total of four months, but have doubts about returning, at least as a solo traveler.

go to south florida, very foreign to the US and close.

Improvisor - I have unlimited time :) This past June I traveled for 3 weeks in Germany, Amsterdam, and UK. I knew about the trip about 6 months out so my first expense was the plane ticket and then as i decided, I just booked hotels/airbnb rooms...etc. I only traveled with about $1500 and survived fairly well including bringing back gifts and still having $200 to my name.

I'd like to take a 2-4 week trip. I'll say that my budget is $4,000-$5,000 (inclusive of the plane ticket)

I love the idea of India... but is it safe? My understanding is that women aren't necessarily valued there...

suze Aug 22nd, 2013 10:29 AM

Well I'm really interested in going to Buenos Aires Argentina, but I have no idea if that fits your wish list or not.

You can most certainly go to Mexico for 2-4 weeks for that amount.

Cape Town, South Africa seems to meet all your requirements.

Fredy18Michael Aug 27th, 2013 03:24 AM

Arusha, tanzania seems to meet almost all your desire

careful, Colombia is a world leader in producing USD funny money.

sparkchaser Aug 30th, 2013 02:55 AM

Colombia is a world leader in producing USD funny money.

That's why you should use the local currency, in this case the peso, instead of dollars.

not a relevant comment, the funny money all comes to the US according to the Broward task force.
