Hawaii or Bust!
We are 99.9% sure that Hawaii will be the magical destination for our honeymoon this October.
We would love to receive any and all resort ideas for Maui and Kauai. Also, can anyone let us know what temperatures and weather to expect? I would love 80 degrees + every single day - possible? Thanks! |
If you are 99.9% sure that Hawaii would be the magical destination for your honeymoon-I would guess that you have not traveled much, and that you are an American. That being said,if that is your destination of choice-be careful how you get there. Most flights are on large comercial planes that put you in the position of being in the middle of the middle row of seating in coach. Try to get 1st class or business if you budget allows.

For average temps, weather.com is your best resource.
tripadvisor.com is a great source for feedback on resorts and hotels. I do not like Hawaii personally and once was more than enough. I much prefer the Caribbean. |
Oh wow. I loved Hawaii and prefer IT to the Caribbean. Kauai is likely everything you imagine Hawaii to be. We stayed at the Outrigger and the Radisson, same hotel, different sign out front and liked it fine enough. If you plan to do a lot of sightseeing (as you should in Hawaii), don't upscale your accommodations too much because you likely wont be in your room much either.
On Maui, we stayed at the Embassy Suites...upgraded a little. :) But Kauai was our favorite island. E-mail me if you'd like more info about restaurants or snorkeling. :) If you DO want to spend a lot of time in your room, I'm not the best person to ask about accommodations in Hawaii. ;) Congrats and have fun! |
I'm guessing that the people on here that don't like Hawaii never got out of Honolulu. I'd have hated Hawaii if I had to spend more than an hour or two in Honolulu. As far as the big plane, how many overseas flights don't have that big middle section in coach??

Ah, yes, we were perhaps among the minority who rented a car in Oahu and got out of Honolulu...saw the lush north side of the island, went hiking and saw all sorts of beautiful waterfalls before heading for Kauai and Maui for a few days each. Kauai was our favorite island of the three, followed by Oahu. We're not sure if we thought Maui was overrated because we were so tired by the time we got there, or because it just wasn't our style. I could see the arguments where the Caribbean would trump Maui...

I haven't even been to Maui yet, but it does sound a bit overrated, given the prices. I absolutely loved Kaui and Hawaii (Big Island).

Congrats! I honeymooned in Hawaii last November and loved it! We spent 3 nights on Oahu, 3 on the Big Island and 3 on Maui. It was right around 80 but with much less humidity than home (FL). It did rain a little bit, but not enough to spoil any of our plans. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Maui, which was beautiful. Bonus: they have a honeymooner's happy hour once a week and send a bottle of champagne to your room. :) Overall, nice rooms, nice staff and penguins in the lobby (yes, really). Enjoy!

Have been to Hawaii 4 times including honeymoon it is the best beach destination. In Kauai the Hyatt was amazing if I went back I could never imagine staying anywhere else. There are 5 pools and great places to eat and it has a very peaceful open feel to it. People love the Princeville but it is on the rainy side of the Island and we thought the Hyatt was so much nicer. In Maui we stayed at the Ritz in Kapalua (the rainy side) it is a little secluded but very nice. If you want more action stay in Kanapali. The Westin, Hyatt and Marriott all are pretty good but it has been awhile since I have stayed in Kanapali. The other hotels you may look into are in Wailea (sp) this is where all the stars stay and I think there is a Four Seasons the Grand Wailea over there but I have never stayed in that area.

My wife and I had our honeymoon 10 years ago in Hawaii. We have gone back nearly every year since, a total of 8 times now and already planning our next trip to Hawaii for 2007. I will say that Kauai is our favorite but we of course love Maui and the Big Island as well.
We stay in condo's or rented homes with private pools nowadays but if a resort is your cup of tea then I like the Kauai Marriot and on Maui you can't go wrong with the Kaanapali area resorts. This being your first time to Hawaii, I might recommend a website that offers a unique service in which they can help you plan your trip and maximize your time on each island. www.truealoha.com I believe is the site. Also check out www.littlegrasshack.com where you can get Hawaii products and DVD's. They have a "Just Maui'd" t-shirt that you newlyweds can wear so everyone knows you're honeymooners - I know that sounds embarassing but actually it means you'll get all kinds of discounts at places you go in Hawaii (not just Maui either). You asked about the weather. You should have no problem having 80+ degree weather even in December. It is pretty much 80+ year round there. However December is within Hawaii's rainy season so it is possible for you to have rain but I typically see the rainier times in January and February. December is also a great month to go for Whale watching, etc. I know a lot of people shun away from Hawaii for honeymoons because it is so popular as a honeymoon destination and I know it's not always hip to do what everyone does. But those people who miss out on Hawaii for that reason are really missing out on a whole different way of life that nobody should miss out on. Kauai is probably the best example of true aloha spirit and once you experience this yourself you will never want to go anywhere else (again, I have been there 8 times already and am going back next year). Aloha and congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Enjoy your trip. |
