Have Trip Critera - What country meets all points?

My husband and I are looking to go away the second week of June. We are pretty well traveled and rarely have so much criteria for where we go (we did hawaii in Jan, Peru and kenya last year, and India the year before)...We are looking to go someplace that has a good combination of relaxing and culture/things to see. It can't be somewhere TOO hot (I'll be 22 weeks pregnant). It also shouldn't be someplace that is known for it's food, like Italy or France -- since I wouldn't want to be there and not be able to eat the cheese! We live in NYC and this place wouldn't be more than 12 hours away...ideally less. We are open to ALL ideas -- we thought maybe Malta (but is it too far) or Croatia or Iceland or South of Spain or Alaska? I'm sure there's a lot more we're missing and would love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks in advance!

I'm confused-why would you not want to go somewhere known for its food? You'll be hungry and there aren't very many things you can't eat at 22 weeks!

It's not that I don't want to go somewhere known for food -- I meant cheeses! Like I thought it might seem silly to go to France when you can't have brie, goat, gorganzola...or like Japan when you can't eat sushi:)

thanks!

Why can't you eat cheese?

Have you thought about Portugal? You can relax on a beach in the south, or find lots of culture in Lisbon, with visits to Sintra and Belem (see my TR: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...-lisbon.cfm?34. I suppose you should skip Porto, as I imagine port tasting would be out, but you could visit Evora, and/or Coimbra, Obidos, and the pilgrimage sites.

I'd go to England - or better yet Scotland. (but they do have really excellent cheeses)

But I also don't understand the "no cheese" thing. It is really only some soft cheeses and blues you'd want to avoid.

Have you considered Santa Fe, New Mexico?

Why is Malta too far? Fly into LHR and out again. Or get Easyjet from LGW or Ryanair from Luton. It's only 2.5 hours from there. But it isn't wonderful for food IMO. If you're going in summer it will be hot hot. But it's very interesting, easy to get around, has a mixture of beaches ans sights to see.

How about Canada? You have quite a nice choice of options: Nova Scotia (Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, Halifax), Toronto and Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec, and so on. It's not too hot. It's also a short hop from NYC so you won't be trapped in a plane for a long time.

I would do France but Quebec and/or Montreal might be a good alternative.

Barcelona should be lovely and not too, too hot in June.

Easy to walk around, inexpensive taxis, nice subways. Lots of culture (old and new.) Lovely produce at the market.
