Global Entry Renewal
Does anyone have experience recently renewing Global Entry? Mine expires in several months, but wanted to have an idea how early I should apply to renew. Last time I renewed, it occurred quite quickly, no in-person interview was required, and I got a new card in a couple weeks. However, that was under a different administration...
Just curious what experiences people have had recently. Thanks. |
I've renewed twice, and one of those times was under the current president but in his first term.
With my initial application I had the interview, but not with either renewal. My DH had interviews with the initial application and the first renewal, but not his second renewal. As far as the administration goes, I don't think that will affect anything unless there's another shut down. I think you should renew now while things are working. |
Just make sure to renew before the current one expires; I forgot, and it took the better part of a year for me to get the new one. No second interview needed.

Perfect timing to ask this. I had to get my id number and saw mine is expiring next year. I read the FAQs and it says I can renew up to 1 yr prior. I will be doing that as I don't know if I will need to be interviewed again. I have two international trips booked later this year and prefer to be interviewed when I return during one of them if I need to.

Thanks. I was thinking to wait until after my next trip (June), but that might only leave ~five months, and sounds like longer than that is a better idea. I assume it doesn't impact anything if the renewal is "in process" while traveling, since my current membership is still valid, right?

Your current status will remain intact, even if you're in the process of a renewal.
Eks, my DH did have another interview when renewing and I've known others who have told me the same. I don't know why that happens for some people and not others. As sassy mentioned, if they do require another interview, you can do it on the spot when you return to the US. |
We have renewed twice and did not have to re-interview for either one. We got notice of it being renewed within a week, maybe two max and it took several days to receive the new card in the mail. I'm not certain I'd bother renewing a year in advance unless you had a credit card that paid the renewal fee every few years.

My husband and i renewed ours about a month ago. Both cards were due to expire in July. We had no changes so we renewed online. There was no mention of a follow up with an agent upon arrival back in the US. The cost for renewal is $120 and we received our updated cards in about 2 weeks by mail. FYI--the Global Entry number on the new card is different from the old one.
Hope this helps. |
Renewed mine in July 2025 and got approved in 7 days, no interview required. Experiences do seem to vary though; some people still get asked for an interview while others sail through. The good news is that if an interview IS required, you can usually just do Enrollment on Arrival when you get back from your next international trip, so no need to hunt down an appointment.
You can apply up to a year before expiration, so no harm in doing it early. I wouldn't stress too much, renewals still seem to be moving faster than new applications overall. |
Spouse and I renewed our GE online last Monday and received approval notice about 24 hours later - no interview required.

Just an update, like the last poster, I filed my renewal on Sunday, and got my renewal approval notice this morning (Tuesday). No interview. So my worries were for naught.

Thanks for the update, I'm glad to hear it was so easy.
