Also how big the bag should I buy? 30, 40, 50 liters?

The main bag is 45L, and the day bag maybe another 20L.

Can't help with the DSLR question, my current camera is a Nikon S9100, which fits easily in a small Eagle Creek waist pack, along with its power cord, charger, spare battery and cards.

But the real answer is "as small as possible". The less you carry the happier you will be.

Ok so 45 is better? but in airplane it will not a hand carry? I'm using D7000 it's quite heavy. hmmm.. ok but i'm thinking for 25 to 30 kls of bag. I guess it's better to carry as compared to 45 to 50 . Imagine a sacks of rice all the ways in my travel. hehehehe..

The best size of bag really depends on your own size and strength. A large man can usually carry a lot more than a small woman. That may sound sexist, but it's not. A large and well-trained woman can carry a lot more than a fat man who never lifts anything heavier than a beer bottle.

I've seen tall young men effortlessly carry large backpacks that are half as big as I am. I'd fall over and never get up again if I tried that.

Go to a shop. Ask if they will let you try on the bags filled with heavy things. A bag that feels fine half empty may hurt to carry around when it's full. Remember that you are going to be doing at least some walking, including on stairs.

@anyegr: thanks: Now upon reviewing the bag size. the 50 liters can carry up to 6 kls things. I will choose between 50 to 80 liters. But I'm looking for the lighter model and not bulky. But it's hard to find here in Jeddah.

Can you buy over the net and have the bag shipped? It's not as good as trying it out in the store, but will give you more choice. Try REI and ebags. Maybe even eBay.

My bigger bag typically weighed in at airports at 10.5 kilos (the one with no wheels, more with wheels), plus quite a bit more in my day bag - it has all the electronics, pharma and a change of clothes. But I am an older woman and don't travel with more than I can carry.

REi bag is cool. But i"m afraid in online buying. I guess 10 kls maiximum is enough. =)
Mam don't say that. Yup you're but you gain a lot of experienced in you travel adventure that matter most and now you're a help to those who's inspire to do the same. Kudos Madam!

We are currently travelling in South America for 6 months with carry on bags only. We are using http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lowe-Alpine-...tt+carry-on+40 which fits the cabin measurements for 95% of airlines. Fully packed it weighs in at 8-10 kgs ( my wife's pack is lighter!)

You may have to substitute one or two items ( e.g. Being male, I didn't find the need for dresses, at least on this trip!!)

Hmmm, no hip belt on that pack, crellston? My first convertible backpack had a useless hip belt and I was so relieved when I got a pack with a good one.

Thursdaysd - no need for a hip belt with a light pack ime, although I agree a hip belt does make carrying a heavy pack a lot easier.
