family vacation

We want to go on a vacation 4 to 7days with kids 2 and 5 year old. We ( 4 adults and 2 kids) are willing to travel in US or any other countries in the world. Any one has suggestions for a fun filled and very enjoyable vacation site?

How about some more information?

Do you want a beachy type place, a city, countryside? Do you want relaxation for the adults or excitement? Is a cruise an option? How about a time of year... December or January often point to different locations than June or July.

Do you have a budget in mind? If you have a lower budget, then closer to home is probably better. 4 - 7 days really is very little time so I'd honestly suggest staying closer to home. For your group, an apartment or small rental house is often a nice option so that you're together yet still have privacy and have a kitchen.

Knowing absolutely nothing about what you're looking for...

Florida
Washington DC
Alaska
Seattle
California
A cruise
Mexico - a resort?
London or Paris (though you really need more than 4-7 days)

Thanks IR for taking time to reply. well, we are planning our trip during the last week of June, and with mid level budget in mind. If we go to a resort in Mexico or Caribbean island, should we need to be concerned about hurricane.

I don't know when hurricane season is for sure, but I want to say it's June through sometime in the Fall. If those areas are something that interest you then you should probably repost your request (with more information) on the Mexico or Carribbean boards. That way people who know alot about those areas can offer specific advice. There's really not a lot of activity on this board most of the time, so you'll have much better luck on the Mexico or Carribbean boards.

If you are traveling during hurricane season, seriously consider getting trip insurance.

Good luck and sorry I couldn't be more help. :)

nice tips. I also am not sure when the hurricane season is, but more likely it's in spring of fall.

Butm you know this Global Warming makes climates change and seasons change as well.....no idea how to predict(((

Official hurricane season is June 1-November 30 with most occuring in September.

If you're concerned about hurricanes, California is a good option.

San Diego would be easy. Not as exotic as Mexico or Carribbean. There's been some great airfare to Costa Rica.

We traveled the southern California coast when my boys were 4 and 7--they loved it. You could do San Diego (the zoo is amazing and so is Sea World). We walked over the border into Mexico briefly--they liked all the street vendors and bought little trinkets, but I wouldn't advise doing that now--it's very dangerous. The drive along the coast to LA is really beautiful--there are lots of nice beaches where the kids can paddle around and you can relax. You could go up to Anaheim and take them to Disneyland. It's much smaller and more manageable than Disney World in Orlando for young children. Your five year old would love Disneyland, and there are plenty of rides/attractions for tiny ones too. Although we didn't go, I've heard Legoland and Universal Studios there are nice as well. If you can stay in a hotel in the Disneyland park itself, I'd do it. It was great--we could head out early in the morning while the park was cool and not very busy, head back to swim or nap in the middle of the day, and go back later if they were up to it. They loved the character breakfasts etc. This is a pretty kid focused trip--not sure what you're looking for. Both San Diego and the LA area have lots to offer for adults as well.
