East coast non-beach vacation ideas?
Family of 4 (including 12 and 14 year old girls) are looking for Spring Break ideas. Have done Hershey and Pigeon Forge, to give some ideas of what we like. Would love to stay in a cabin rather than a hotel. Anyone have any ideas or recommendations? We are traveling the first week of April. Thanks for your help!!

How about Washington, DC - lots of history and the Smithsonian Museum complex is fantastic.

Thanks for the idea. We actually live in Virginia and can do DC as a "weekend getaway". Plus, the girls really want to "go somewhere" ; we are lucky that DC really is our backyard. Would love to hear any other ideas!

How about Philadelphia, not too far a drive and loads of history and other things to do there.
Have you done the Charlottesville area yet? We went there last year on our way back from FL (we are retired) and seeing Monticello was always on my bucket list! Loved it and we also did Madison and Monroe's homes, so much history there. We also visited UVA and did the free tour of the rotunda, a college student did the tour and it was wonderful. Might give your 14 year old something to think about for college! http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...-2002Oct9.html Or how about Yorktown, Jamestown or Colonial Williamsburg, a great place to visit. Virginia Beach: http://www.virginiabeach.com/attractions Myrtle Beach area is nice for spring break, lots to do there. Ocean City, MD might be nice: http://ococean.com/ Hope this helps, let us know what you decide. |

Vermont will be in mud season then.

You should stay in a cabin rather than a hotel, I am sure you will enjoy there. This is a great way to spend time together. Good Luck!
