Does KINDLE do EMAIL? Help?

Can anyone tell me if the cheaper kindles do Email? The one with the keyboard? (if not, why a keyboard, but I can't find it on amazon anywhere, including in the 120 page manual). I'm fine with webbased email.

Many thanks (I gotta decide reeeeel soon.

I have a Kindle 3G. It does not do email. My daughter has the new Kindle Fire. It does email and has the ability to surf the internet. I'm not sure what kind of fee there is for her service. There is no fee with the 3G, but all it can do is download books. I saw confusion about why is there a keyboard if it doesn't do email. I've practically never used the keyboard, and I don't even see keyboards on the less expensive models that have been released. The function of the keyboard on the 3G is to have the ability to take notes, or to make comments to others. Hope this helps.

On the Kindle 3G you can surf the internet. It isn't as good as a computer but it is adequate for basic searches. There is no extra fee.

You also have an email address for your Kindle 3G which you can find under the Settings section. I have never used it so I don't know how it works. I think you can only receive email not send.
