Do you get your expired passport back?
 

We let our passports expire because we knew we would not need them for a year or so. Now it's time to renew. They are requesting the expired passport with the application. Will we get them back? I like to keep the old ones just for the stamps. Thanks for any/all information.

I got my new passport about six months ago and they sent the expired one back with it (clearly marked that it was no longer current). This was in Florida, but probably true nationally.

Yes. Mine came back with a hole through the cover. All of my stamped pages were in tact!

yes (unless something's changed recently) i have all my old passports. i like them for the photo!

Yes I have all of mine with the exception of one that was stolen, :( I missed it more than the $$.

I'm guessing you're all referring to American passports, but in case any Canadians are also wondering.... yes, you get it back with the corner cut to indicate it is no longer valid.

Yes. I have all our old passports. Thank goodness, too, or I would never had been able to fill out the visa applications for our trip to Russia a few years ago. Who can remember every country they've been for the past 10 years, with dates? It took two days to fill out that thing. Grrrrrrrrumble. After that I started a file with trips/dates in case some other country needs that info.

I've always gotten mine back, but my sister and her husband just renewed theirs a few weeks ago and were very disappointed when they didn't get their old passports back. I don't know if there was a policy change, or if they just made a mistake or what.

As with most government agencies, the passport agencies are not staffed with the sharpest tacks in the box. I requested extra pages - you have to fill out and include a separate form when you are renewing - and of course they didn't give me extra pages.

Your sister not getting hers back was probably a mistake. but, if you check http://travel.state.gov/passport/faq...741.html#gen11 it says you are supposed to get your old passport back, but it may be sent separately from the new one.

It took the US Government longer to return my old one to me than it did to give me my new one when when I renewed mine in January. Pegs, tell them to be patient, as there's no reason that it won't come... eventually.

You do get your old passports back. I have all of mine, some have been punched through, some have a notation that it is no longer valid for use. I had one passport stolen and used the one preceding as partial documentation (all of my ID was taken in a mugging and I was leaving for Italy in 3 weeks)for a replacement. My new passport came with the notation printed on the back inside cover that it was a replacement for a stolen passport and my old was was stamped a second time that it had been replaced.

my husband renewed his passport in january and he got the expired one back about 3 weeks after he got his new one.

I asked about this, too, this past spring. Hubby's new one arrived, then the old one arrived a couple weeks later. (no hole punched in)

I just renewed my passport about a month ago and i got the old one back.

We got the expired passports back, with holes in the cover/ID page, just a few days after receiving the new ones.

I got the old one back too, and was very glad, as the only previous passport I had been able to find was the one I used to travel to Italy with my parents and sister when I was 3 1/2. I'd have been very upset to lose that.

A month ago my husband got his new passport, the old one came back a few days later in a separate envelope.

I received my old passport in the mail about a week after my new one arrived. It has a hole in the cover indicating that it is no longer valid.

I just got my new passport the other day and was wondering why I didn't get the old one back. I guess I should be getting my old passport back soon, hopefully. Thanks!
