Cruise for 8 people (2 adults 6 kids)
 

Hello and THANK YOU in advance for all input!!!

We are trying to find a cruiseline to fit our needs, without breaking the bank in the process! We can depart from Eastern USA. We would like to go somewhere warm! :) The trip would be around the last week of July. Our group consists of 2 adults, 6 kids (ages: 17, 14, 12, 12, 10, 6) which I think takes us out of the Disney type cruise-not sure the older ones would truly enjoy it. Also, we would like one with the aquaparks. Does anyone know of a cruiseline that can accomodate us? The two older children can be in a room alone, if so, we prefer it adjoined to ours-if possible!!! We also prefer a 5 day as we have about 7 total days for travel!

Also, would this require us all to have passports-depending on locations?

Actually, I think you might find this group a bit of a challenge for booking. Generally (meaning, not all, but most) cruise lines will not let you book two minors to a room without an adult. I've never seen a cruise room that will sleep six.

Also, there's this rule about unrelated adults and children not sharing a room. This was when we were traveling with a female family friend and had her sharing a room with our daughter.

Frankly, it took some wrangling. We had to book me in the room with my friend and my daughter. Then, we booked my hubby and two boys together.

Now - that being said, once you've booked their way, you can make the sleeping arrangements as you like. There are a few cruiselines that do have a limited number of adjoining rooms.

Re: Passports - Assuming you will be cruising outside your home country, yes. All of you will need passports.

You will need to call several cruiselines in order to book this trip to work for you. Most booking sites will not permit you to book more than one room or will limit the number of occupants.

To take a party of eight, you will most likely have to book two rooms, with your husband in one and you in the other. Then, you'll be able to switch around later.

Wow, this is a bit of a challenge to book! Hmm, maybe onto different vacation ideas?! (Cruise was suggested by kids-thus they don't get the "logisitics" of our annual family vacations). I do believe with the cost of passports, the extent of calls it is taking to find a cruiseline to book multiple rooms, we may have to pass on this!

Don't give up yet! Try it and see if you can find it! I've heard that NCL and Carnival both have family rooms that sleep as many as five.

Mom: I will do a little more checking... however, the passports-yikes! Only 2 of us will have them (due to other travel), but the other 6 will not! The man of the house is a little skeptical on the cruise idea as we are normally "camping for a week" or "in a cabin" for a week during this time-bonding time w/the kids; no work, no sports, just time to slow down. I don't know, maybe I can find a resort stateside. I think the kids are just in the mood for something new! lol

NCL has rooms that "sleep 4" but they're pretty cramped. My daughter and I went with a married couple and their 2 boys. They were horrified to find that their "sleeps 4" room pretty much consisted of two twin beds and two twin trundles between them. We had an adjoining cabin, so one of the boys stayed in my room, but with only two adults, you'll only be able to book 2 rooms.

Carnival rooms for four are essentially a bunk bed on either side of the room. There are two twins and two fold-down twins above them in what look like overhead compartments.

Four kids in one room, even teens, isn't bad. Add a suite accross the hall that sleeps four more comfortably and you may be perfect.

We took a cruise from Port Canaveral because it wasn't as far as Miami yet the ships could access a large part of the Carribean. Ports north of there seem to only take in the Bahamas.
