Copy of passports lost...any potential problems?

Last November a copy of our passports was stolen from an outside zipper pocket of a suitcase somewhere between Rome and Atlanta, via Amsterdam.

We thought we were carrying the suitcase on, but KLM refused to allow it, even though we had done so on the way over.

We didn't file a report since nothing of real value was taken.

Now we are planning our October trip to Spain and it has occurred to us that perhaps we should make sure the passports have not been compromised in some way. We, of course, still have the actual passports.

Do we have anything to worry about? If so, what should we do?

Thanks for any information or help!

A copy of a passport wouldn't get anyone a new passport. They'd have to present themselves in person and unless the thieves are your twins, that wouldn't work.

The copies are just pieces of paper - and I don't think it is very likely they were 'stolen'. If someone got into your bag, they'd be looking for more than just copies of passports.

janisj, of course that's what happened. The copy was in a folder with some other papers, like hotel reservations, addresses, etc., that we had used on the trip
It seems that somebody just unzipped the pocket, pulled out the folder, and rezipped it.

Thank you for your reply. I don't think we have anything to worry about.
