Check for new "travel" fees from credit card companies

I just read an article saying that Discover intends to start charging a 2% fee for any purchases made out of the United States in order to recoup some of the other fees they will be losing when the new credit card law goes into effect. So far that's the only one I've heard about, but I'me sure there will be more. http://money.cnn.com/2010/02/17/news...it_card_rules/

Discover is not that widely used overseas, if at all. But I have a feeling others will soon follow. Many already have the "conversion" fees - Visa/MC's 1% on top of the individual card's 2-3%. So it will pay to check any letters you receive from your credit card providers.

Evidently Capital One is still a safe bet. It has not charged any conversion fees in the past and said it has no intent to do so now - at least, not in the next year. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/20/yo...l?pagewanted=2
