Cant decide summer vacation desination, pls help

Hi everyone, I am planning a trip for my 3 week vacation at the end of July to mid August. And I am stressed out on trying to find a good destination.

My original plan was Europe. Fly to London, then paris, amsterdam, then Rome. 3 nights at each city. I figure since this is my first time to europe, might as well make the most out of it. Do you think its a good idea? Or should i cut down the number of cities, pick 2 and stay longer there?

The other thing I was told repeatedly by my friends is, it gets extremely hot in southern part of europe during the summer. For those who've been there during the summer time, does it gets really uncomfortable for outdoor sightseeing? Lets say if I walk around in Rome mid-day, will I be sweating buckets in 10 minutes?

If not Europe, where else is a good place to go? I am tired of beach resorts, and more into adventurous type of traveling. Is south america (e.g. Peru, Chile) worth taking a look?

I've been to all over SE asia, and china, so I don't really plan to go there anytime soon. What about Africa? Is it a good idea to travel to africa during the summer?

I know I am a bit all over the places, but I have no travel knowledge outside of NA and Asia. So any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead!

Thanks qwovadis, those are very interesting ideas, especially the Inca trail. Will definitely looking into that.

Nothing wrong with a trip to Europe! With 3 weeks, I'd personally pick just 3 cities. If you're afraid of the heat stick to the Amsterdam/London/Paris combination.

It was terribly hot in Rome in alte September and made it hard to go sightseeing.
Look at Ecuador, Cuenca, in the mountains for better climate and temps, or Scandinavia.

How about South Africa? They speak English and south of the equator our summer is their winter.
Same deal with Australia and New Zealand. They're still recovering from the earthquake in New Zealand though.
