If you want to spend more look at the Sony action cams.

Less the Yi ones.

Or countless really cheap Chinese knock offs. If you don't already have camera the cheap knock offs are an option to get your feet wet. They all tend to come with accessory kits that fit a GoPro. Plus the kits alone would cost you more than the cheap cameras cost.

Honestly if you're just starting and need to learn everything from the beginning. Filming,video editing or even grading a cheap camera isn't a bad idea. The things are so cheap if after two months you give it away it won't even hurt.
