I take a few trips each year without her, either for business or diving...

The dog, of course! And fortunately, she can go on most trips because we usually drive around Europe, not fly (she is an English cocker spaniel). She is especially welcome in France and Belgium; so many dog lovers. She's very cultured--how many cocker spaniels have toured the chateaux of the Loire Valley, the wineries of Sancerre, the Michelin starred restaurants of Paris and Brussels, the parks and spa towns of Germany?
This summer we're taking her with us to the Dordogne, Avignon and Megeve.
Unfortunately, now that we're in the UK, she can't go with us into restaurants, cafes and shops on an everyday basis, the way she did in Brussels. How uncivilized!

My sound system.

While most chains are supplying larger and larger television sets (which I seldom use) most never provide a decent radio -- and I'm not talking about a great radio, just a decent $30 one. When a radio is provided, I doubt it cost more then $5.

Funny about the pillows ... I dislike the "soft" ones most hotels have. It's all a matter of taste, isn't it?

Definitely our two Golden Retrievers. We always say that if we should ever win the Lottery, we would charter plans to take ALL of us on our travels!

Since this is barring no expense, I'll say our dog. He's an Alaskan Malamute and we like to travel to warm climates. We'll be paying for a lot of air conditioning just for him!!!

Definitely our dog. He's huge--180 pounds--and it's hard enough fitting him comfortably in our car for long drives, much less an airplane. But my husband and I long to take him with us on our travels, as well as 2 of our cats. They miss us like crazy when we're on the road, unlike our third cat who, in true cat fashion, wouldn't give a rat's a$$ whether we're gone or not.

In 1957 my father in law took his whole family AND his 1957 Olds Starfire to Europe on the Queen Elisabeth for 3 months. Those were the days...Can you imagine him driving around those small roads with that huge vehicle. They were chased everywhere they went by admiring kids.
