Best Mid-December Destination

We are a mid-thirties couple with no children seeking a vacation destination for two weeks this coming December (9-25). We were initially considering Peru, but have become concerned about bad weather and possible ill effects on our travels. We have traveled all over W. Europe during this time period in years past, but not Spain. Would be interested in North, Central, and South America, or whatever suggestions you all may have.
We are active, healthy, and seek adventure and cultural encounters with good weather. My wife works over the internet and will have to work some of the days of our vacation, so very remote locations without secure internet connections are out. I have had great success with many recomendations made by folks here in the past in our prior travels. So thanks in advance for any tips, suggestions, or recommendations any of you may offer.
Best regards,

What about Australia? I did a Christmas vacation (their summer), from mid December to January 1 trip. I went to Sydney (you need a week here), Melbourne, Alice Springs, and then diving/snorkeling, I think base was in Canberra for that. I've also been to Portugal & Spain for the same period, it was great, a little cold, but not as cold as some other W. European countries (Germany, Austria etc) at the same time of year.

Puerto Vallarta Mexico is absolutely lovely that time of year. Plus those dates would put you in town for the Festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe which is incredibly wonderful to see and participate in (culminating Dec 12th). PV's very modern (perhaps too much so for you?) internet's not a problem. Two weeks is enough you could spend some time in the city, then the rest in one of the smaller towns north or south along the coast.

What about Costa Rica? You could do a Panama Canal cruise; the prices are unbelievably low now. You don't have to go through the canal, just cruise on the lake and back out. Port Limon is a nice port of call in Costa Rica. You can take a train excursion to view wonderful plant and animal life. Other ports of call are very interesting in this region and have Christmas decorations galore. Ships are celebrating the season onboard too. Princess does a nice one. We've done both land and cruise tours in Central America--very memorable! Travelocity has been advertizing low prices on quality tours both land and sea at

And what about Jordan, a very interesting place and you will have great wheather during december. You could go for a package like The Hachemite Biography and wadi Rum: Amman – Ajlun – Jerash - Desert Castles, Dead Sea,, Madaba, Nebo Mountain, Kerak, and of course Petra, Wadi Rum and several days to rest then by the Dead Sea.

Kauai or Maui would be spectacular. Last December we took our first trip to Kauai and it was wonderful.
