Best budget travel guidebooks?

What are everyone's favorite guides for low-budget travel? So far I know about Vagabonding, Life Nomadic, and Working-Class Globetrotter, but that's about it. All good, butnNone of those are location-specific either, so good in general but not the best for any given trip. Can anyone recommend a good location-specific guidebook?

www.moon.com FootPrint Rough Guide LetsGo my top 4.

avoid LP guides they sold out to BBC fired everyone competent.

now controlled for profit no longer a true traveller forum.

just using dated material currently the worst I have seen.

Check publication dates carefully go for most recent

and realize always some info will be dated at publication.

Happy Hunting,

Rough Guide usually does a good job (although their food recommendations often leave much to be desired). We use them for logistics and check out other traveler's blogs for other local tips.

That's interesting about LP. I ran into one of their writers in Dangriga, Belize a few weeks ago...about the most non-touristy town in the country. He had been 3 years prior & was making comparisons.

I thought it was only the website that was sold to the Beeb. That said, I've had some problems with LP lately.
