Banff and Jasper

Do you need a passport to go visit these parks in Canada coming from the USA? If so how much do those cost. Never got one before..

You need a passport to go anywhere in Canada from the US and to get back. The parks, in and of themselves, have nothing to do with it - except they're in Canada.

Actually, you don't need a passport to get into Canada if you're a US citizen. From http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/security-...dmiss-eng.html

"If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada. However, you should carry proof of your citizenship, such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization, as well as photo identification. If you are a permanent resident of the U.S, you should bring your Permanent Resident Card (i.e., green card) with you."

... BUT you need one to get back into the US. From http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html

"AIR TRAVEL

All U.S. citizens traveling by air are required to present a passport book to enter or re-enter the United States.

LAND AND SEA TRAVEL

On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or other travel document approved by the Department of Homeland Security."

I don't know where ShelliDawn got her info, but you do need to have your passport when traveling to Canada now - talked to someone at customs. All adults traveling by any means of transportation must have one or a passport card, however children traveling with their parents only need a birth certificate. The wait time for a passport is only 3-4 weeks at this time...

lanybug19,

Please re-read my post as it is very clear and the sources I quoted (and linked to) are the respective Candian and US government websites.
