A Nightmare Cruise Vacation

Sounds like an episode from the Twilight Zone. However, its true

Maybe that's why Budman doesn't do his trip report. He was on that cruise!

Jack Jul 17th, 2007 01:14 PM

What makes it true?

RBCal Jul 17th, 2007 01:20 PM

Um, it's not a TV show but an actual cruise.

Jack Jul 17th, 2007 01:25 PM

Yes, but what makes the story true?

JJ5 Jul 17th, 2007 01:31 PM

It's a newspaper article written for money to entertain and has little truth in it. You can tell by the end and in several other spots. It's like Michael Moore with the women on the golf course in "Roger". It's staged to entertain.

Despite what this writer thinks, people of all ages, and political beliefs do not say "they all look alike" etc. in company.

I thought it was going to be about a real cruise that did not follow its published schedule or one where the entire ship got the "bug".

This wasn't even funny, and would offend many liberals I know and love.

I was thinking the same thing (that it was all made up) since the author was using every stereotype I've ever heard of. I know a lot of very conservative people through business and I have never in my life heard any of them talk like that. This guy claims to have heard it all on one cruise.

I'm not going to say it's not true. Does anyone remember the John Birch Society? My boss (also a friend) knew a member, he went to his church and that member was always inviting him to meetings so my boss and my husband decided to go to one.

You can't imagine. They went to laugh at them, they both had a very dry sense of humor, but the tails they would tell made my hair stand on end. I read some of the literature that they brought home with them. I would think, people just can't think like this!!!!!!!

So, even though some parts of the story didn't ring true to me, it does NOT surprise me that there are people who can think and talk like this.

Tale, NOT tail (:. They actually went to several meetings but then stopped going because they were afraid if the went anymore they would really start getting pressure to join.

Original story was in The New Republic

Hari has a weekly column in the UK in the Independent and Evening Standard. His degree is from Cambridge.

Jack Jul 17th, 2007 02:56 PM

Now that gives the story more credibility. LOL

nanabee Jul 17th, 2007 04:01 PM

If it is in print it MUST BE TRUE!! Right??
