40th Birthday Girls Weekend - need ideas!!

I am planning my own 40th weekend bash! I want to invite 5-6 friends and pay for the lodging. I am looking to go the weekend of March 11th. We live in Central NJ - I am looking for someplace within driving distance. I can not decide if I want a bed and breakfast to rent out, a villa, or go to a city like Washington DC. I was hoping maybe some great idea would jump out at me! I would love to go someplace warmer but not sure if that is within reasonable driving distance and don't have the money for airfare and don't feel comfortable asking for others to do so in this economy.

Please help!!!

Welcome to Fodors jchizever14. You will do much better/get more response if you re-post this over on the United States board (see the 'Change Forum' pull down menu?)

This forum is more for general travel topics and the USA forum gets many times more traffic.

Check out THe Spa at Woodlach, in Hawley PA. Would be close & lovely. Jetsetter has a deal at the Sofitel in NYC if you wanted to go that route.

Philadelphia could make an affordable, slightly warmer winter break that is within driving distance. Providence, RI could also be a good option (although not warm). Both have sights to see and good food. I've stayed at the Courtyard in Philly and it's centrally located, well-priced and attractive.

One thing for you to consider is applying for a Marriott Premier Visa from Chase. While there is a $65 annual fee, you'll get a free night stay certificate that you can use in a category 1-4 hotel (which includes the Courtyard in Philly, the Residence Inn in Center City/Philly, the Renaissance in Providence and the Courtyard in Providence). You can up to 30,000 points after your first purchase with the card, which would be enough to cover a 2nd night's stay. If this option appeals, you should apply asap because it can take a while for the free night stay certificate to be deposited into your account, and up to a month or so for the bonus points to be deposited. I wouldn't expect warm weather in Philly or Cape May in mid March.
It COULD POSSIBLY happen, but it also could be a snow storm.
