20 days in October

Hello,

I have 20 days in October to travel and want to know where would be the best place considering the weather?

That is a very difficult question to answer.

What is your budget?

Where are you travelling FROM? Your profile does not mention where you live. America or Europe or somewhere else? Depending on your nationality, you may need a visa to get to some destinations and that could take time to arrange.

What do you like to do on your vacations? Going to the beach? Visiting museums? Looking at old places/ruins? Big city nightlife or quiet little villages?

Where have you been before and did you like those places? Would you want to go to something similar or something totally different?

And what does "considering the weather" mean? Do you want to be hot or cold? Wet or dry? Chasing tornadoes or avoiding hurricanes? Do you think we are mind readers?

Why don't you pick up a copy of "1,000 Places to See Before You Die" and stick a pin in the Table of Contents? This is one of the silliest questions I've seen in a while.

I am coming from Los Angeles. Have a ticket via miles to go anywhere in the world and will be traveling alone. I am 40 but a young 40. I do not want to go to someplace that is bitterly cold or unbearanly hot. I am looking for a good deal. Money - $3,000.00

Great. So you want temperate weather at a somewhat budget level - $150/day all-in. But if you have no idea where or why you want to go, you might as well stay home. Why do you want to travel? What do you want to see/do/experience/taste etc.

Egypt, anywhere in Europe, China, African safari...

October is a pretty good month for travel just about anywhere in the world as it's not the middle of winter or summer anywhere. Just saying that you want to go somewhere where the weather is nice isn't really helpful. :)

What are you interested in? Do you want history, architecture, art, nightlife, boozing and sleeping around, cooking classes, relaxing on a beach or hiking in the mountains? Do you want cities, isolated or a mix? When you think of your vacation, what do you want... relaxation or high energy?

You could go to Australia and combine Sydney, the Outback, the cloud forests around Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. You could go to China and combine big cities with smaller communities. In a pinch there's always laying on a beach in Fiji or Hawaii. London is great fun and has a ton of fascinating history. With 20 days you could easily see a lot of the UK and Ireland if you wanted.

Do you want to rough it a bit or stay in luxury places? Does the 20 days include travel days? I often suggest having at least one day off when you get home before starting work again just to give yourself a chance to get back in the right timezone and cover incase of any delays (get home on Saturday to start work on Monday).

Have you traveled before? Where did you go and do you want something similar or totally different?

You might want to just go to your local library or bookstore and start flipping through the travel guides and see what pictures strike your fancy. Go through the different travel boards on this site and read some trip reports or planned itineraries. Again, what catches your interest? Start googling for some of the places being discussed and look at the pictures, what makes your heart jump and makes you think "I want to go there!"? Print out a map of the world, put it on the floor and toss a coin onto it (I assume you don't have a dartboard handy, otherwise that works really well). Start researching that area of the world. You might have to try a few times to get somewhere that isn't the middle of the ocean. Start googling the top tourist destinations and see what sounds fun.

People on these forums can be great help, but we need some idea of what you might like. I can plan a great 17-20 day trip on your budget, but it would be what I like and want to see and may not be what you like. You need to tell us what you want before we can help point you in the right direction. We won't plan every detail of your trip for you but are happy to help you plan your trip, you just need to tell us what you want out of it.

All of you are right. This is my last vacation that I will be having for the next 3 years. Because of work. So there is the pressure. I have been to Chile, Spain, Munich, all over Italy, Argentina, Mexico, Sao Paolo Brazil, Vancouver so it is difficult. I will use your questions to formulate something. Thank you.

We have been in Prague, Vienna and Budapest in October and had very good weather.

We have been in Scandinavia in September and October and been very warm and then finished our trip in Paris and we were freezing - had to dig out knit caps and gloves.

You can never predict the weather.
