1,001 Smart Travel Tips
A few regulars in this forum (and in the old solo travel forum) were quoted in this recent collection of travel tips. Their tips appear alongside tips from Fodor's writers, editors, and readers.
You can view who was quoted here: http://www.fodors.com/news/story_3030.html We also launched "Travel Tip of the Day" today, which links to this forum. I hope in time we can continue to make this a great spot for swapping both tips and inspiration. Part of this will occur with us fully designing/explaining this portion of the Forums---but it also comes from you. You've done your part already--there has been some really thoughtful, supportive threads here. I like to think of it partly as the starting point of great trips--the part of the Forums you come to when you're looking for good ideas and some added gall to go somewhere you've never been. |
Katie_H~ So do we get another free book? -lol

I know... a library of Fodor's!
Just drop me an email at [email protected] with your address if you'd like a copy. |
You're too good to us Katie!! Thank you.
I like the "Travel Tip of the Day" idea - I have to start thinking of some great tips to post. :-d |
You do toedtoes; at the moment many of the tips being featured on our home page are from the new book. But I'll be throwing in more recent/timely tips from this forum as we go along...
|
Where should we post these tips, Katie?
|
Good question---at the moment, I'm one of the editors that help with the Travel Tip of the Day. Some days they are editor tips---other days their tips from users. So far we've included both types pulled from the new tip book.
I posted today's for instance---it's from suze and it's about how she makes "scrapbooks" as she travels with the help of a glue stick. http://www.fodors.com/news/all_trave...f_the_day.html This is a new section on the site; I'd like eventually for there to be an easy way for users to post tips that rotate through the space. |
I just had a look at the book's table of contents. I noticed that while it has a chapter on "Family Travel," it lacks a chapter on solo travel. Somehow I'm not surprised. On the other hand, I don't see a chapter about "couples travel" or "honeymoons/romantic getaways." That does surprise me.

Hey, that's not me ;-) I've *never* made a scrapbook or written a travel journal in my life!!!!!!!!
|
Suze- I have started journals, but never keep it going. My daughter is a good journal writer.
|
Ha! Suze... I don't know why I said that you made the glue stick tip. Strange! You are in the book though!
I like the glue stick tip though--might try it sometime as I do save little cards, etc and then bring them home where I eventually just stuff them in a shoebox. |
:-) Well I do record trips in my own way, but more for future information than art, emotions, or memories.
I collect business cards of hotels and restaurants, I keep ticket stubs, and buy postcards. I keep these in a ziplock bag or clear plastic pencil case (like you'd put at the front of a 3-ring binder for school), one per city or trip. This comes in handy for posting later on Fodor's if nothing else -lol! I also have gotten into the habit to always carry a 3x5" spiral notepad & pen to jot things down. Again locations, addresses, meals, prices, new words if I'm somewhere non-english speaking, etc. |
