Wine Tours Montevideo
Visiting Montevideo April 14 thru 16 and looking for a vineyard tour. Everything I have found is quite pricey. Are taxis or transportation available from downtown hotels?
Thanks

I always use Viator. com to book my tours when I travel internationally. In fact I will be in Montevideo next month! Viaror works with local tour companies. They usually pick you up at your hotel, very professional. I have never had an issue. Check them out.

Thanks for the replies, often they go wanting. My wife and I travel frequently and I like to research, throw a wide net, and explore all options. We have on occasion used Viator as well as toursbylocals and getyourguide. We like to use local services when at all possible to cut out the middle man and this often returns more to the local economy. Since services like Viator are re-sellers I like to go behind the scenes if I can. One little secret (maybe not a secret) that Viator has not picked up on is that when people review their services/tours they will often mention the guide service booked through Viator. Then you just re-engineer, so to speak, and find that guide service which in turn maybe less expensive than Viator and may actually have more and different tours or may customize. From what has been told to me Viator takes a hefty chunk for their services. Using Viator however does afford the comfort of a larger company if something should go sideways, but then that would take the fun out of travel.
I did find what I was looking for in Montevideo by way of talking to the concierge at my hotel.
Cheers

If I don't get too lazy I'll post a TR. I always have good intentions. MVD is a fairly quick several day stop over on the way to Mendoza, where we will spend 8 days. My wife and I often take wine-centric trips, beautiful scenery and food seem to go hand in hand with grapes. With Uruguay being an emerging area and the Tannat grape varietal it seemed like an interesting region to explore and my late father visited MVD years ago and had an enjoyable visit. With Uruguay being an emerging area you need to dig a little deeper to find value and a good experience. I often overlook the concierge but the folks at the hotel seemed to have several options. I did check out Esencia Uruguay and they are indeed still open and quite near my hotel. Thanks for the tip.
