where to stay Buenos Aires

I will be in Buenos Aires in early January 2018, my first visit (actually, first visit to South America). I'm a solo traveler so want to be in a safe (but not sterile) area. I've read a bit about Recoleta and Palermo Hollywood. A central location is ideal - but expand what most people consider "walking distance" - I typically put in 10-20 miles a day on vacation. So, areas of BA and also hotel recommendations (no higher than $200 please) will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Was there something else that wasn't covered in this very long recent thread with the same question?

I stayed in both Palermo Hollywood and Recoleta on the same trip and liked Palermo Hollywood the best as it just felt more like a real neighborhood in the area where I stayed. Plus, it was walkable to Palermo Soho.

Happy Travels!

Recoleta has a few museums and miles of parks and good restaurants.
The Palermos .. Hollywood & Soho are funky, young artists etc .. a taxi/bus ride to get to other areas ..
Palermo Botanico is next door to Recoleta, you can walk from one to the other, museums, parks, zoo etc ..
Get A Map.
Get a good guidebook.
Make lists. It is a huge city- h u g e :-)
The people are lovely, mostly well mannered and they appreciate good manners .. so please and thank you will get you a long way when dealing with store/restaurant people ..

ps, be prepared for heat .. take lots of cafe stops and drink plenty .. some shops might be closed for summer vacation, plan ahead for alternatives..

I went as a solo traveler (added on to a work trip to Santiago) and loved the Time Hotel in Palermo Soho. Very stylish place with comfortable rooms, great price, perfect location, cool lounge area where you can meet other travelers. More about it in my trip report:

Haha - Yes, sorry - MINE. Darn autocorrect. And yes, the dollar was nice then. But I just checked, and the rates are still very reasonable. I booked on Tablet:

It is a very "cool" hotel, I love the architecture .. Palermo is unique for that sort of neighborhood ... except for the cobblestone streets : )
If we had not bought our home in Recoleta, that part of Palermo really appealed to me ... funky NY Soho feeling ..
