Where to go in Central/South America in August

My husband and I will be in Florida for a wedding in late August and want to tack on a vacation for 1 week. We'd love to go somewhere in Central/South America since we'll already be down south. We've never been and we don't know if there are any good options for that time of year since we'd like nice weather. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!!

A good time to visit the Sacred Vallley in Peru.

What kind of activities do you like to do MJS? At that time of the year there is plenty to discover and 1 week is quiet short - so please, tell me what are you looking for (culture, wildlife, food, activities, scenery...) and I will help you with that!

Thanks for the replies! I think we're leaning toward Panama right now, since it's closest to Florida where we'll be. We'd like a vacation that's a combination of relaxing/beach and adventurous/scenic. Our ideal day is a beautiful hike in the morning and relaxing by the beach in the afternoon. And good food of course! With only 1 week, we think we'd like to visit 2 places at most. What would you suggest?
Thank you!

Nice weather? I'd say sunny and not raining. Doesn't need to be beach weather necessarily but I don't want it to be rainy or overcast.

August is dry but cold and sunny in the Andes of South America. Not beach weather for sure! It's high season around Machu Picchu, for example.
