What area to stay with an apartment?
 

Hey all,

We are planning on a week in BA the first week of NOV 2010 and are considering which area. We are not great tourists or shoppers, but love to infiltrate a culture. This means daily cafe time and meandering as well as an evening of chamber music or dancing--not watching.

Also, we plan on medical Spanish school.

Any comments on why one area over another would be welcome!

I stayed in Recoletta in an apartment that I booked through Buenos Aires Habitat. I was quite happy with the location and would definitely stay there again.

And I'll recommend Palermo Soho, where we stayed. Everyone has different ideas on where to stay, and that location worked out great for us. We rented through VRBO instead of an agency. Again, it worked out perfectly for us.

I've stayed in three different apartments in RECOLETA all rented from three agencies. I had no problems. ...just wanted to survey.

I am very partial to Recoleta because three of my guides (all independent) happened by chance to reside in this barrio and applaud it for its accessibility, its relative safety, its venues, its parks, etc. Check out www.bairesapartments.com. Go through the list of available apartments in Recoleta, a centrally located place for walking and taking taxis...

In 2007 Martin was the manager; I emailed him with a list of five apartments that I'd checked via the website and asked him to select the better one for me. He did (irrespective of price per week)!

Where is the school?
I always suggest Palermo or Recoleta for longer stays.
They are well established, residential neighorhoods and it is very easy to get anywhere in the city from either one as a base.

Most established rental companies ask for a deposit and almost all rentals want USD cash.
