We need suggestions for a day tour of Sao Paulo
 

My wife will be in Sao Paulo, Brazil for business and has one free day. She would like to take a day tour of Sao Paulo. She enjoys art, culture, history, architecture, and shopping. She is thinking of something like a bus tour. Please give us your suggestions. Thanks much.

The main attractions I'd suggest are: Ibirapuera Park, Pátio do Colégio, the Memorial da América Latina, and the The Monument to Independence, short reviews are below:

I imagine these would all be on a busy tour, but you may want to decide for yourself how long you wish to spend at each one, or even throw some shopping in as well, so an organized tour may not be the best option. If you'd rather do your own thing and maybe take public transportation between the spots, maybe try the subway? Here's a map

It's range is limited, but overall it's fast and fairly modern...You can buy the an electronic ticket at newspaper stands and supermarkets, which will give you discounts when combining subway and buses.

You should go to Ipiranga Museum, Ibirapuera Park and we have lots of shoppings centers!!

I'd suggest shopping on and near Rua Oscar Freire in the Jardins neighborhood. Lots of Brazilian and international stores, plus it has lots of nice restaurants. You can walk around the neighborhood with ease.

Ibirapuera Park has some nice museums, nice to walk around but mainly on the weekends.

Visit Mercado Municipal. Visit the Liberdade neighborhood

I wold not suggest taking public transportation in Sao Paulo.

I've literally spent a day in a mall in Sao Paulo, with a great meal included. Some popular ones are Morumbi, Iguatemi and Higienópolis.

Forgot to add, if your "day" includes the night, have a drink on the rooftop bar at the Unique Hotel, it gives a panoramic view of Sao Paulo.

K_brklyn made some superb suggestions, and I'd acknowledge this writer's suggestions. SP is one hell of a huge city (3rd largest in the world) and it would be impossible to cover a lot of territory in one day, so a guided tour and/or k-brklyn's suggestions would suffice as well as provide you with a "slice" of what Sao Paulo has to offer.

Although I enjoyed my three visits there, I prefer Rio de janeiro to SP because I found it so much easier for me to navigate using taxis, buses, and the subway.
