Want to plan a trip to Colombia?

Am interested in visiting this country as I hear it's getting safer and safer. If I go for 8-10 days can someone suggest an itinerary for me. I would like to see Cartagena but another interesting place as well. thanks for your help. Also when is the best time to go?

Hi, my friend is there right now. She is posting videos and food pics on her website.

There will be lots more restaurant, shopping and tourist pics and video over the next 4 days.

thank you- looking forward to reading more. Interesting that the lack of responses must indicate that Colombia is still a road less traveled.

There is plenty of info out there. Check out sites likes www.suite101.com and www.poorbuthappy.com . Colombia is the last unexplored country here but numbers keep growing. In the first quarter of 2010 international tourism grew by another 10 per cent. This is not to say that there are hordes of tourists, just that people are catching on.

Start in Cartagena to get your bearings and then branch out from there. Beyond cartagena the tourist infrastructure thins out by everything is possible. Flights in-country are inexpensive and the people are welcoming.

I have lived here for 5 years and worked in latin america for 10 and have no regrets.

As an itinerary

Cartagena 3 days
Head to Santa Marta/ Taganga to plan trip trip to Tayrona Park
rtn SM or Tag to plan trip to Minca
Head inland to Mompox and then return to Cartagena and fly out.

That should cover 10 days nicely!

I've not been to Colombia but I have some friends there now - they loved Bogota and Villa de Leyva. They did not go to Cartagena but I have heard great things about it as well. My friends adored Colombia and highly recommended it.

The question mark in your title statement suggests you're selling travel services or something.

We traveled in Colombia last year with our 11 year old. we felt perfectly safe everywhere. We found it to be the most amazing country and I cannot wait to get back. Cartagena is a great city, but Bogota and Medellin are cool to visit to. If you have a big enough budget you could visit the Amazon area (Leticia) or go to San Gil/santander for adrenaline type activities. But it's hard to beat Cartagena and Tayrona.

the question mark in my title statement means that I know it's still unexplored territory and just wasn't sure about how tourists fare in this country. I am not selling travel services- far from it.. from this posting you can see I still haven't made it there but still interested.
