Visiting Peru in January
 

Has anyone been to Peru on January? I heard it is the rainy season in the mountains and amazon. We were planning a trip with our 22 and 23 year old kids this 2012.

Our son is going the third week of February and we're told that the rain and climate vary by region.

In what area will you guys be traveling? In central Peru near Huancayo, we've been advised to prepare for 40 degrees farenheit at night and not to expect heat. Days are in the 70s. Huancayo is at 11,500 feet, so it's a mile higher than Denver. They did tell him to expect a daily relatively short burst of rain that begins and ends in the afternoon.

In feb rails to MP washed away LOTS of rain.

So might risk early Jan stay flexible out of amazon

or wait till things dry out in May a better plan for most.

Yes, rainy season is in its worst Jan and Feb. You could always go to the coastal beaches as it is Beach time in Jan.

We start the Inca Trail on December 31. I will post about the weather when we finish. If you don't hear from me, we got washed away.

Weather changes per day here so regardless of what your experiences are they may be different in other times.

It never rains in Lima. In Jan and Feb is the best time for the beaches in South AMerica. WHen in Lima check out "Sur Chico" and "Playa San Bartolo". Great beaches with many restaraunts and night clubs.

I have traveled to Iquitos in February for carnival and its a tropical climate...so its like being in the caribbean...yes it may rain...but your not going to get rained out. The rain will go as quickly as it came so dont let that steer you away from visiting the amazon! We traveled with Maniti Expeditions and they were great!
