Visa for Argentina - new rules

Argentina: The government will begin collecting a $131 entry fee today from U.S. business travelers and tourists, but only those entering the country at Buenos Aires' Ezeiza International Airport. The fee buys a multiple entry visa good for the life of the passport, but is primarily being implemented to bring Argentina into a reciprocal relationship with the United States. That is, charging U.S. citizens what the U.S. government charges Argentines for an entry visa.

Is there a visa required for Canadians entering & if so how much is it?

Jeff_Costa_Rica Dec 23rd, 2009 07:44 PM

Except that it is not a visa, and the guy who writes that travel column is mistaken in referring to it as one. It's a reciprocity fee of $131, which, yes, you do have to pay upon landing. But you don't have to apply for anything in advance, unlike an Argentine citizen who wants to come to U.S. That's a visa. For Canadians, the fee is US$70.

But hasn't the implementation been delayed?

My friends came in to EZE after the 20th and weren't charged the fee. Maybe they weren't ready yet. I have read sources that read all airports in Argentina will be charging the fee. Does anyone know of someone who's been charged yet?

I read that it's been delayed until Jan 1.

The Canadian reciprocity fee is $70USD and is charged each time you enter unlike the fee for US citizens

There is already a very long thread about this with some great info:

http://www.fodors.com/community/sout...-of-122009.cfm

So far it only applies at the airport in BA, so if you enter Argentina from somewhere else you do not have to pay. As Jeff mentioned, it's good this is NOT a visa so you don't have the hassle of sending off your passport and photos in advance.
