Two weeks in Argentina in December

Planning two weeks in Argentina this December since that is my vacation time. I know it's not the most ideal time to go to Iguazu since it will probably be hot and muggy. Any ideas as to the best itinerary. Could also go south towards Patagonia, but don't know exactly what would be the best way to maximize my stay. I will be traveling with two friends.

December in Patagonia is stellar. The days are long and weather nice. What are your goals for the trip, what would you like to see and do?

Our South is great in Dec. and it is low season, BEFORE Xmas.

Have a great time in our country with your friends.

We were in Iguazu in late Nov and thought it was a great time to visit as far as the climate was concerned. Highlights fro us were teh Northwest around Salta, Iguazu, Patagonia and of course, BA. As soulskier suggests, provide more info and you will get more focussed suggestions

Yeh, its true give me some details and I can point you in the right direction because Argentina is SUCH a vast country and full of so many contrasts! The highlights include BA, Salta, Iguazu, Ushuaia, Patagonia, Bariloche, Mendoza... with 2 weeks I would recommend you get to know BA and its surroundings and then fly to one of the places above!

Hi there

I am just going to jump in on this post... as I am sitting in the same boat except we travel in the first 2 weeks of November.

We were planning a week for BA and then would love to have a bit of RR time either in the mountains or on the coast - we were thinking we should maybe hop over to Chile for more beaches but not resorty? Anyone been to Lamu off Kenya's coast... because that's the type of atmosphere I really like :)

Travelling with a friend - we are both 30 and like art, architecture, cool little neighbourhoods, quirky & tasty coffee shops/bars/restuarants, galleries for current artists and design/clothing shops but shopping is not the priority :) except maybe for a gorgeous pair of knee lengh flat leather boots... And we are outdoorsy to the extent of enjoying a 2/3 hour hike but nothing to extreme.

Any advise (or the address to buy a pair of boots) would be much appreciated.

We love steaks!

Oh and are there any ranches one can go and stay, maybe do a bit of riding, that are fairly affordable - around $50 pppn or less?

BIG thank you's

For boots try Cardon an upmarket leather store 9plus other stuff). They have branches in various places in BA and elsewhere http://www.cardon.com.ar/.

Did all our riding in Chile so can't comment on Argentina but we did look at staying at estancias but found them to be very expensive and a tad too touristy.

PS Good job you like steak. It is hard to avoid it in Argentina!!!
