Trip to Brazil
Hello -
A friend and I are planning a trip (first time) to Brazil (RIO) end of January 2012. We have been searching online and are talking to a travel agent as well, but I would like to see if anyone (veterans of brazil) have any tips or recommendations for us rookies. We are freshly 30 and want to experience the mecca known as Brazil before we become seriosuly involved with anyone. Obviously we are looking for the best beaches in Rio, along with culture and of course women. Any information would be helpful - especially tips on which hotels are good - obviously you cant really tell from what they put online, because they all say they are fantastic, when that is not the case. We will be there for 8 nights and would like to explore as much as possible, but not bankrupt ourselves. This has been a long time coming for myself and I.. WE want to make the best of it, but I have heard horror stories, as well as AMAZING stories... im trying to make this an amazing one.
Thanks in advance -

Brazil is an expensive destination these days, with the exchange rate as low as it is.
Hotel ratings can be found on Trip Advisor. Do look at the # of posts any reviewer has though; the more, the better.
IMO most of the local women who might want to meet some short-time vacationing gringo who doesn't speak their language or understand much about their culture are gonna be pros or semi-pros, poor and a little hard looking, out for money or at least a nice dinner/hotel stay, not the lovely women of the beautiful photos of beaches in Brazil. The more Portuguese you can actually speak, the better your chances of meeting a genuine local, so start learning now. Most hotels do not let you bring "guests" back to your room (Brazilians use "motels" for this), so you might want to rent an apartment.
Rio is not the be-all and end-all of Brazil. In 8 nights, you could take a side trip to Buzios or Paraty/Ilha Grande by bus or fly up to Salvador or down to Florianopolis for a few days.
Do some research online or in a guidebook. In Rio, go out to the samba clubs in Lapa, like Scenarium or Carioca da Gema. to dance withthe locals.

Rio is gourgeous. Not because I live here. But now is quite safe, of course as any big city you have places, that you should not go. Ipanema beach, near Garcia d"avila - beautiful people. Buzios nice choice if you want to meet beautiful people. Many pelople at your age speak english (the people you want to meet).Mar Ipanema Hotel,(I just checked in booking.com - for now U$ 256,00) is one of my favorites, very central, 2 blocks from the beach, a nice restaurant and "devassa" down it (were people meet). As a carioca, is the best area to stay . Near Baronetti nightclub (beautiful people). Enjoy your trip!

Brazil is a huge country, so you might want to research a little before deciding where to go, and certainly avoid touristy spots if you want to meet local girls.
To travel inside the country you should fly to save time, and for that you might want to consider the Brazil Air Pass, which allows several flights for a flat price.
Check this site for Airpass details:
