Travelling Solo...

I'm a 20 year old female who is travelling to Ecuador solo in February.

I'm doing lots of research and planning, but for the peace of mind of my family is there any specific advice anyone can give?

I fly into Quito at 10 pm, which is less than ideal. But I'm heading to Montanita nearly immediately as I'm taking Spanish lessons for two weeks there. I'm considering flying to Guayaquil as soon as I can get the next flight out of Quito, maybe not even leave the airport.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

There would be no flights to Guayaquil until the next morning. To be honest, I'm not sure the airport is even open all night.

Thanks for your help.

Do you know if hotels will allow me to check in after 10?
Should I book a hotel ahead of time?
Do you know any reliable ones in Quito just for 1 night?

The last time I was in Quito I was robbed twice in 3 days. My camera was stolen from where it hung on my chair in an uncrowded restaurant with widely spaced tables and my handbag (a very heavy leather bag... they must have used a very sharp knife) was slashed when I was surrounded in the market in the historic area. Be Careful and watch your back!

Although I haven't visited Ecuador yet, I am planning on going in April. It seems like a lot of the hotels will offer airport pickups and dropoffs. Many of the flights get in late and from what I have read it's not a problem for them to pick you up late at night. That seems like it would be a safe option for you. Have fun
