summer olympics in Rio
 

I'm having trouble finding information about vacation rentals in Rio in the Deodoro area (where the equestrian events are held). So far I've looked at AirBub, homeaway and flipit. None of these let me search for Deodoro. Any ideas on where or how to make contacts?
I have visited 2 sites that have packages for the games. road trips is one of these.the other was JetSet Sports. These include lodging and various amenities like transportation to the various venues, but no tickets. anyone have any experience with these sports packages?
We would really like to have a house or villa for our stay. I'm going to check other posts about tickets.

You probably want to stay in what is called the Zona Sul, by the beach where most tourist hotels and furnished apartments are located. Deodoro is a residential neighborhood, but in Zona Oeste, not central (for tourism--I have friends that live nearby in Anchieta and it is a shlep with traffic into the center of town for sights), so I wonder how many AirBnB-type opportunities there are or will be. Rental houses or villas are not so common in Rio. There're more likely to be short term furnished apartments for rent to tourists, the majority in the Zona Sul. Googling "short term apartments rio janeiro" came up with many possibilities of agencies. Zona Sul is most comfortable for foreign tourists, since much of Rio looks run down and scares some of them.
I haven't heard much about specialized transportation for the games. The local buses might be hard to figure out, but they should be putting on some dedicated ones. (Specific info is a bit scarce from outside the city.) Taxis would be your best bet to the riding events, or metro/subway for its limited route (not Deodoro).

By the way, my friends are more into the equestrian scene than I am. the older daughter has competed in dressage on a high level. Her work, now, has required her to cut back on that. We are all big fans. I'm looking forward to the eventing and dressage, particularly.

Huh! My Fodor's guide to Brazil arrived. Quite good except nothing on the Olympics. Big disappointment!
