Suggestions for 5 days in and around Lima?
 

My husband and I are traveling with another couple in and around Lima for 5 days. Our hotel is in the Miraflores area. Could anyone suggest "must-see" places within Lima, as well as day trips out of Lima? Also, we all love to try authentic cuisine and to visit art museums. We will leave on a cruise out of Lima after our time there. Due to my asthma condition, we won't be able to go to Machu Picchu, but have heard there are other ruins near Lima? Is there a tour agency anyone would recommend with specific tours? We also love wine tasting and did quite a lot of that on a previous trip to Chile and Argentina. All suggestions are appreciated.

Huaca Pucllana is easy to get to from miraflores

The Plaza de Armas and Basilica of Saint Francis and catacombs are nice.

I did a day trip to see the Nazca lines (it was a long day though)

You have a ton of options, and if you enjoy museums, your time in Lima will fly!
I'd recommend a good guide book -- perhaps the Moon Guide. And if you haven't already seen it, you might find some useful information in my trip report. The section on Lima starts with post # 67:

I also recommend the Larco Museum

A great website for Lima sightseeing is Limaeasy.com . Be sure to double check hours etc as it is not completely updated.

For museums, Larco is the best, but I also love the Amano (which is open daily).

Not a huge fan of Miraflores. Prefer Barranco. If you like art you might want look into Second Home Peru. I believe they offer tours if you aren't staying there, by appointment. There are a number of interesting galleries and stores in Barranco. Dedalo is one of the best known. I also like traditional crafts at Las Pallas.

There is an adobe pyramid in Lima, Huaca Pucllana.

I also like the Plaza de Armas to Plaza San Martin corridor. There may be some kind of guided tour you can take, although I've done it on my own.

A fun thing to do in the evenings is the Magic Water Circuit.

I like ceviche..if you are adventurous you can go to one of the markets to eat. Perhaps if less adventurous, look for a food tour. One of the traditional seafood restaurants in Miraflores is Punto Azul but you can also do a bit more research on that.
