Suggested driving route Lima to Huaraz?

I've rented an SUV and I'm headed out from Lima to Huaraz tomorrow morning. I'm looking for suggestions on driving routes. I'd be happy to take a longer route and make it an overnight trip if there's something spectacular, but most of the posts I've found discuss fly vs bus this route, and not so much on driving information.
Thanks.

Never driven it--took the bus there and back. The Cruz del Sur bus route map goes north on the Panamerican Highway (1N)then east at Paramonga into the Andes to connect with 3N. Then north to Huaraz. I recall a young Peruano sitting next to me throwing up into his cowboy hat during the journey.

Buen viaje.

I suppose that's a reason to drive yourself!

I remember more vomiting on the route from Paracas to Ayacucho...

Unless you the driver are the one who has to vomit. I don't recall seeing much shoulder area along the mountain roads. So probably best to keep a bag or something handy.
